Fan Tables

  • contact: promos@wiscon.net
  • WisCon 40 deadline:  March 1, 2016

Are you an organization looking for new members? A convention bid in need of backers? A nonprofit trying to spread the word? Our Fan Tables may be just what you need!

Groups who plan to attend WisCon and are able to staff the tables throughout the Dealers’ Room open hours bring materials about their project and sometimes even small giveaways to attract conversation.

There are a limited number of Fan Table spaces available outside our Dealers’ Room every year; these tables are free of cost and are reserved prior to the convention. The tables are in a high-traffic area and electrical outlets may be available as well. Preference is given to groups whose projects support marginalized groups or are relevant to explorations of feminism, gender, race, class, and disability.

To apply for a Fan Table, contact us at any time between the end of the prior WisCon and March 1 prior to the next WisCon.

Watch our blog for the list of this year’s Fan Tables, announced prior to the convention.

Our Fan Tables follow standard hours every year:
Friday:  2-6pm
Saturday – Sunday: 10am-6pm
Monday: 10am-2pm

Freebie Tables

  • contact:  promos@wiscon.net
  • We accept deliveries from late April until the week before the convention every year.  Please do not ship anything to us before we make an announcement here.  Our delivery address may change from year to year.

Do you have swag promoting your book, convention, podcast, or other project that you’d like promote to WisCon attendees?  You’ll want to consider our Freebie Tables!  While most conventions and conferences traditionally have swag bags, as part of our sustainability initiatives we’ve switched to Freebie Tables — these allow our members to pick and choose what catches their eyes which eliminates a lot of paper waste.

What can I send?

Anyone can provide things to be placed on the freebie tables, but all items will be reviewed in light of our guiding principles and we do reserve the right to discard any items that we deem inappropriate.  If you’re not sure if your promotional items are right for WisCon, we encourage you to contact us at the email address at the top of the page to inquire.

How much should I send?

WisCon caps its membership at 1,000 — most years we have an average of 800-900 members.  You are welcome to send the number of items that feels right to you, but bear in mind that anything left on the Freebie Tables will either be donated (books) or discarded (everything else).

If you’d like some guidance on how much to send, please contact us at the email address above.  Let us know what you’re interested in sending so that we can give you an estimate.  We especially encourage you to contact us in advance if you are interested in shipping multiple boxes of books.

Where do I send stuff?

We announce our delivery address every April.  Please don’t mail anything until the address has been posted!

Promote it at WisCon!

  • contact:  promos@wiscon.net

WisCon is a convention with an annual membership in the neighborhood of 800-1,000 fans who are equally passionate about feminism and social justice as they are about the next awesome work of science fiction (or fantasy or horror, et cetera) they’re going to read, watch, or listen to.

Which means WisCon could be the perfect place to promote your project.  We have several ways that you can get information about your book, podcast, call for submission, fan group (and so on) into the hands of our members.  WisCon is an especially great venue for you to promote your own upcoming convention!

Advertising

WisCon offers paid advertising opportunities in our Souvenir Book and sponsorship of our Pocket Program Book.  Members eyes’ will be glued to our PPB all weekend long, and the Souvenir Book is a beloved item that’s taken home and enjoyed after the convention ends.  Each is a great way to get your message to our members in a memorable way.

Fan Tables

Our Fan Tables are locations that your group staffs during the weekend.  This is a great opportunity to actually interact with interested WisCon members and answer questions (and sign up new members!) on the spot.

Freebie Tables

When WisCon did away with swag bags (to reduce waste as part of our sustainability initiatives), we introduced our freebie tables.  The freebie tables are something of a smorgasbord of flyers, promotional items like bookmarks, buttons, and fake tattoos, and the occasional cache of advanced reader copies.  If you were hoping to send us the sort of small promotional item that would normally go into a convention swag bag, check out the information about our Freebie Tables.

Each year’s WisCon souvenir book contains photos, articles, bibliographies, and anecdotes related to our guests of honor, as well as information about the James Tiptree, Jr. Literary Award and the Carl Brandon Society Awards. Attendees hoard our at-con newsletters and pore over our Pocket Program Book for program schedules and panelist bios.

When information on ad rates and guidelines for our next convention are available, there will be a link at the top of the page to download a PDF.
