What Would WisCon Drink?

Chris Wallish
SF3 Communications Committee

Our friends at the Concourse Hotel are letting us take over the drink menu in the bar again!  If you can come up with an interesting idea for a WisCon-centric drink, the Concourse’s bartender will consider adding it to the menu for the convention.

How it works:

All you need to include is the drink name and any suggested colors/ingredients.  Give a short explanation of the reference if it’s obscure.

Alcoholic suggestions very welcome — non-alcoholic drinks strongly encouraged!

The one catch:  We have just 24 hours to collect suggestions, so think fast!  Give us your suggestions by commenting on this blog post, commenting on our Facebook post, or tweeting at us.

  1. Not Throwing Away My Shot: ale or cider, rum, Laird’s Applejack, maple syrup, citrus

  2. California Shaah (inspired by a drink in Sofia Samatar’s The Closest Things to Animals):
1 oz Voyant chai cream liqueur
    1 oz Vanilla vodka
    0.5 oz pepper vodka
    3 oz black tea (chilled)
In a shake filled with ice, shake the above ingredients and strain into a rocks glass (ideally with one oversize ice cube) rimmed with cinnamon sugar

Ginger Mate Cocktail (inspired by a drink in Nalo Hopkinson’s The Salt Roads):
    1.5 oz vodka
    2 oz Canton ginger liqueur
1 oz chilled yerba mate tea
    0.5 oz simple syrup
    0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
In a shaker filled with ice, shake and strain into a highball glass filled with ice (or serve in a hollowed out gourd, but I assume that’s too hard to source).
    Garnish with candied ginger.

Lucky Jim (Justine Larbalestier wrote a blog post titled ‘In Which Kingsley Amis and I disagree’; this is an adjustment of one of Kingsley’s favorite drinks)
3 oz good quality vodka (Tito’s, or at the very least New Amsterdam)
1 small dash of dry vermouth
1.5 oz cucumber juice (without seeds)
Shake over ice and strain into a martini glass
    Garnish with grated cucumber
